Syneti and baptism

Updated: 2026-07-11

For a syneti or a baptism, the women of the host family are on their feet all day and photographed constantly, so choose a pinned style that needs no touching rather than hair worn down. A hairstyling costs 25 € and makeup costs 25 €. For a smaller gathering a blow-dry from 10 or 15 € is enough. Book the first slot of the morning, at B&B Elegance in Bregu i Diellit.

A syneti or a baptism puts a whole family on its feet from early morning. The invitations went out weeks ago, the hall or the house is ready, the guests arrive in waves, and in the middle of all that movement stand the women of the family: the mother, the sister, the aunts, the grandmother. They plan the day for everybody else and they are the last to think about themselves. This page is for them. It does not talk about the tradition, because you know your own celebration. It talks about hair, makeup and timing, and about how to get an early morning slot at B&B Elegance when several women in one family need to be ready on the same day.

Let us say the thing that changes every other decision on this page. At a syneti or a baptism you are not a guest. You are hosting, and that means you will be working. You will greet people at the door, you will carry a child, you will serve coffee, you will walk from the kitchen to the hall and back, and you will be photographed the entire time by people who give no warning. Your hair and your makeup have to be chosen for that job, not for one flattering photo at ten in the morning.

From that comes the practical rule for the whole day: choose a look that does not need touching. Every minute you would spend at a mirror fixing a piece of hair that keeps falling is a minute you do not have.

What changes when you are the host, not the guest

A guest arrives, sits down, eats, dances and leaves. If her hair loosens a little by the evening, nobody notices. The host is in every single photograph of the day, because she is the one who appears in every family photograph. She is next to the child, she is next to the parents, she is in the picture with the aunts, she is in the picture with the cousins, she is behind the table when the cake is cut.

That means two concrete things. First, your look has to hold from nine in the morning until late at night, because these celebrations run long. They start during the day and they very often end well into the evening, and nobody stops the party at six. Second, the look has to be comfortable. A style pulled so tight that your head aches after three hours is the wrong choice, however good it looks in the mirror.

So the brief you give the stylist is simple, and you can say it in your own words: neat, clean, durable, comfortable. Not stiff, not heavy, not something that needs maintenance.

Pinned hair or hair worn down

This is the first real question, and for a host the answer is clear. The pinned style wins.

Hair worn down looks lovely for the first hour. Then the actual day starts. You lean over a child, somebody hugs you, the summer heat softens the shape, the hall warms up, and within two hours that beautiful wave has turned into hair you are pushing behind your ear a hundred times. In photographs that looks exactly like what it is: a tired woman fighting with her own hair.

A pinned style, called simply a hairstyling in the salon and priced at 25 €, removes the problem at the start. The hair is fixed, your neck is free, you can feel the air, and nothing falls into your face when you bend down. That does not mean a tall sculpted crown. A soft low chignon at the nape with a little volume on top is probably the best decision a host can make. It looks elegant, it photographs well from every angle, and it holds.

If your hair is short and pinning it is not an option, the alternative is a well shaped blow-dry with a light hold, plus a day planned so that you never have to touch your hair at all. We have set out the full difference between the two services on the blow-dry versus updo page.

When a blow-dry is honestly enough

It would be dishonest of us to say that every family celebration needs a full styling. It does not.

There are syneti celebrations and baptisms held with the close family only, thirty people in a small hall or at home, lunch, photographs, and by six in the evening it is over. For a day like that a blow-dry is entirely enough. A straight blow-dry costs from 10 € and gives you smooth, shiny hair. A natural blow-dry costs from 15 € and gives you volume and movement, which is what most women actually want when they want to look put together without looking styled.

The difference between 10 € and 25 € is not a difference in quality. It is a difference in function. You pay 25 € when you need a look that holds for ten hours untouched. You pay from 10 or 15 € when you need clean, neat hair for a shorter day. If the celebration is big, if you will be photographed constantly and if the day will run long, the styling earns its price. If not, do not pay it. Every figure is on the prices page, and what each service actually includes is explained in our guide to blow-dries and styling.

Makeup at 25 €, and the honest reason it is worth it

Professional makeup costs 25 €, and on an ordinary day it might not be worth it. On the day of a syneti or a baptism it is, and the reason is completely practical rather than aesthetic.

You will be photographed hundreds of times. From people’s phones, from a photographer if one has been hired, and most of those photographs will be taken indoors, in a hall, with flash. Flash is unforgiving. It flattens the face, it picks up every shine on the skin, and it makes a light makeup look as though it is not there at all. A makeup built by somebody who knows how skin behaves under that light, with a base that sets and eyes that are defined, keeps your face recognisable in every one of those pictures.

The second reason is duration. You will wear this makeup from nine in the morning until night. Makeup you did yourself in a hurry, on the morning when you were simultaneously checking whether there are enough chairs, does not hold that long. It starts to move around two in the afternoon, exactly when the guests are arriving thickest.

Ask for daytime makeup, not evening makeup. The difference is real: daytime makeup stays closer to your natural colouring but is built with products that set. Take your lipstick in the same shade and a small powder with you, and that is all. You need nothing else. We have written more about what the service includes on our makeup page.

Timing on the day: the appointment has to be early

This is where most women get it wrong, and the mistake is always the same one: the appointment is booked too late.

Think honestly about how your morning looks. You are up early because there are things to do. You have to be at the house or at the hall before the first guests, and the first guests always arrive earlier than the time printed on the invitation. That means the salon has to be finished with you before the day really begins, not in the middle of it.

If the celebration starts at one in the afternoon, your appointment needs to be at nine or half past nine. The salon works Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 17:00, and the first slot of the morning is the one you want. It is also the one everybody wants, which is why it fills first.

Which brings us to the only thing on this page that really decides the day: booking. Take the appointment the moment you know the date of the celebration. Not a week before. The moment you know the date. For a summer Saturday in Pristina, the early morning slots are gone weeks ahead, because every family with a celebration that day needs exactly the same hours. A WhatsApp message with the date, the time and what you want settles it in two minutes.

Several women from one family, one morning

At a syneti or a baptism it is rare that only one woman is getting ready. The mother, the sister, two aunts, a sister in law and the grandmother are all getting ready. That is normal and the salon knows it.

The mistake is that each one books separately. When each woman calls on her own, the slots land at different hours across the day, and then you spend half the morning waiting for each other or driving back and forth twice. The fix is simple: book together, in one message, and say exactly how many of you there are and what each one wants. For example: four of us, two hairstylings, one natural blow-dry, three makeups.

When the salon knows the number and the work in advance, it organises your morning as a block, works in parallel where it can, and you all come out at roughly the same time. When it does not know, it has held one hour for one person and five of you turn up. Nobody wins from that.

One small detail that helps a great deal: say which of you has the tightest schedule. If the child’s mother has to be back at the house first, she goes into the chair first. The salon will arrange the order if you tell it.

Skin: a few days before, never that morning

A rule with no exceptions. A facial, or any other treatment, is done three to five days before the celebration, not on the morning of it and not the day before.

The reason is simple. Skin can look slightly red after a deep cleanse, and that redness settles within a few hours or within a day. If you have the treatment three days ahead, your skin is calm, clean and at its best on exactly the day the makeup goes on it. If you do it the day before, you risk walking into the photographs with a flushed face. If you do it that morning, you have no time for the makeup either.

The same logic applies to eyebrows. Brow shaping is done two or three days ahead, not on the day, because the skin around them goes a little red and needs time to settle.

And do not try anything new in the week of the celebration. Not a new product, not a treatment you have never had. The week of the celebration is not the week for experiments.

You are the host, not the bride

This is the last thing and probably the most important, because a lot of women feel it and never say it out loud.

You should look wonderful that day. Genuinely wonderful, not merely tidy. It is your family’s celebration and you will be in those photographs for thirty years. But you do not have to compete with anyone, and you do not have to behave as though you are meant to be the central figure of the day. You are not, and that is a relief rather than a restriction.

In practice that means simple wins. A clean, well pinned style, makeup that makes you look like yourself on your best day, a dress you can sit down and stand up in a hundred times. That is it. You do not need a three tier construction on your head and you do not need stage makeup.

The women who look best in the photographs from these celebrations are not the ones who did the most. They are the ones who did exactly enough, then forgot about their own appearance and spent the day laughing. If you are attending someone else’s celebration as a guest and the rules there are a little different, we have written that up separately on our wedding guest page.

Where to get ready in Pristina for a family celebration

At B&B Elegance, on Rr. Jakov Xoxa near Muharrem Fejza, in the Bregu i Diellit area and a short walk from Rruga B, the morning of a family celebration is familiar work, because the salon has done it many times. It is run by a mother and her daughter. Besire, the mother, does hair and makeup and has more than twenty years behind her, while Biondina, the daughter, does the facial treatments, so the facial a few days ahead and the styling on the day itself can both be handled in the same place.

If several women of one family are getting ready, tell the salon in advance how many of you there are and what each one wants, and your morning gets organised as a single block of hours. The prices are published: hairstyling 25 €, makeup 25 €, straight blow-dry from 10 €, natural blow-dry from 15 €. Payment is in cash. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 17:00. Appointments are made with a WhatsApp message to +383 44 397 749 or +383 49 326 303, and the earlier you send it, the safer that first slot of the morning is.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I book for the day of a family celebration?

Book at least a week ahead for a syneti or a baptism, because you need the first slot of the morning and those slots go first, especially on Saturdays and through the summer. If three or four women in the family are getting ready, book even earlier and tell the salon exactly how many of you there are.

Is professional makeup worth it for a daytime family event?

Professional makeup is worth it on this particular day because you will be photographed for hours, very often indoors with flash, and flash flattens a light makeup into nothing. It costs 25 €, it is built to hold from morning until late, and it holds far better than something you do yourself in a rush. Ask for a base that sets and carry your lipstick.

Pinned hair or hair worn down for a syneti?

A pinned style wins almost every time at a family celebration, because you will be greeting people, carrying a child, serving, and moving from room to room. Hair worn down loses its shape within two hours and needs constant touching, and touching it is exactly what you will not have time to do.

Can several women in one family get ready the same morning?

Several women in one family can be booked into the same morning as long as the salon is told in advance how many of you there are and what each one wants. At B&B Elegance in Bregu i Diellit, send the number and the work by WhatsApp and your morning is organised as one block of hours, with hairstyling at 25 € and makeup at 25 € each. If each one books separately, the slots land at different times and you end up waiting for each other.

When should I have a facial before the celebration?

Have a facial three to five days before the celebration, never on the morning of it. Skin can look slightly red for a few hours after a deep cleanse, and you do not want that surprise on the day you are being photographed. Done a few days ahead, a facial gives makeup a much better base to sit on.
